New Delhi: CPI General Secretary D Raja has questioned the decision of Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi to contest in Wayanad. Raja criticized the Congress party for choosing Rahul to contest in Wayanad. D Raja is the husband of Annie Raja, the LDF candidate from Wayanad.
Raja questioned why the Congress has chosen to field Rahul from Wayanad instead of directly contesting against the BJP.
Raja stated that Rahul had organized two campaign programmes against the BJP—Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra. He noted that in these campaigns, Rahul criticized the BJP, but now he is contesting in Wayanad, which Raja finds contradictory. Raja mentioned that Rahul’s decision to contest against the Left Front seems illogical.
Raja pointed out that Rahul’s decision to contest against one of the I.N.D.I. Alliance partners reveals a rift within the coalition. He criticized the Congress party’s short-sightedness in choosing Rahul as their candidate in Wayanad.
Raja questioned why Rahul Gandhi chose to contest from Wayanad when the CPI and Congress are major allies in the I.N.D.I. Alliance against the BJP. He emphasized that if the Congress party wanted Rahul to contest from South India, there are other states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana where all the Left parties and Congress are in alliance.
Raja highlighted the inconsistency of Congress’s stance, as they claim to be contesting against the BJP in some states and against the Left Front in Kerala.
Raja mentioned that Rahul contested from Wayanad in 2019 to secure the minority vote bank. However, he was defeated by BJP’s Smriti Irani in Amethi, with substantial votes in 2019.
