Congress engages in spreading misinformation and morphed picture to defame Rajeev Chandrasekhar; RC fights back

Thiruvananthapuram: The NDA candidate of Thiruvananthapuram constituency, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has filed a complaint against Congress leader, J Moses Joseph DCruz, for morphing a photograph to defame his election campaign.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar filed the complaint on April 2nd in New Delhi.

Accroding to Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s complaint, J Moses Joseph DCruz, a member of the Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee and the National Executive Committee of the All India Fishermen’s Congress, spread misinformation and engaged in criminal conspiracies by manipulating an old photograph featuring Union Minister Kumari Pratima Bhowmick ji alongside Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

The Union Minister Kumari Pratima Bhowmick’s face in the photo was replaced by the picture of PK Indira, who is the wife of CPI(M) leader, EP Jayarajan. This picture was then used by the Congress leader to spread a lie that there are business ties between Rajeev Chandrasekhar and EP Jayarajan.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar lodged a complaint against Moses Joseph DCruz under sections 120B, 463, 464, 465, 469, 471, 499, and 500 of the IPC, along with 66D of the IT Act.

The BJP leader said that these actions as desperate measures by the Congress, as they have no real developmental agenda to talk about, or achievements to showcase, in Thiruvananthapuram.

In another case, a video circulating on social media, propagated by Congress leaders in Kerala, falsely alleges that Rajeev Chandrasekhar failed to disclose all his assets and income in his affidavit to the election commission. However, this allegation was already dismissed by the Election Commission and the Delhi High Court earlier.

The video circulated by the Congress in Kerala relates to a petition filed by petitioner Renjith Thomas in 2019 at the Delhi High Court. The petitioner had alleged that Rajeev Chandrasekhar did not fully disclose his assets before the Election Commission. The High Court did not even consider the petition and had subsequently dismissed it.

After the Congress began circulating this video Rajeev Chandrasekhar lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, Kerala, Mr Sanjay Kaul and Additional Chief Electoral Officer and Nodal officer in charge of Model Code of Conduct, Adeela Abdullah.

In the complaint, Chandrasekhar condemns the dissemination of the false video as a “highly distressing violation of the Model Code of Conduct” by the Congress party. He asserted that at no point in his political career has the Election Commission or any other authority found inaccuracy in his affidavit.

With Lok Sabha elections fast approaching, the Congress finds itself facing a formidable rival – the NDA candidate, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The Congress candidate, Shashi Tharoor, had earlier made it clear that the fight in Thiruvananthapuram constituency is between Congress and NDA. This has raised the intensity of the fight between NDA and Congress and the fake allegations against Rajeev Chandrasekhar can be seen as a desperate effort by the grand old party to get a foothold in the electoral fray in Thiruvananthapuram.
