Pathanamthitta: Pathanamthitta NDA candidate Anil K Antony strongly criticized Kerala State Health Minister Veena George for falsely claiming that the funds provided by the Central government as compensation for victims of wild animal attacks belong to the Kerala state government. Veena George made the claim regarding the Rs 10 lakh provided by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to victims of wild animal attacks as wildlife disaster relief as that of from State government.
Veena George’s claim was regarding the amount granted as compensation to the family of Biju Kudilil (50), who was killed in a wild elephant attack in Puliyankunnumala Thulappally, Pathanamthitta.
It is for that the Central government provides Rs 10 lakh in connection with wildlife attacks to all States. However, in case of an emergency, the compensation amount has to be paid by the State from the Union Ministry’s fund provided earlier to the State government. In such a situation, the amount will be credited to the State government by the Central government soon after, Anil Antony clarified.
Contrary to this, Kerala State Minister Veena George said that the amount is fully provided by the Kerala government without any support from the Central government. She added that the Central government is funding only for the protection of wildlife sanctuaries, and the Kerala state government provided the amount.
Anil K Antony came forward against this claim and lashed out at Minister Veena George for her false claim regarding the compensation amount. He clarified that everyone knows that the total amount of Rs 10 lakh is sanctioned by the Central government.
