Thiruvananthapuram: NDA candidate V Muraleedharan said that everyone in the country is free to express their opinions through media and art. And only those who are afraid of opinions will be concerned with the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ being telecasted on Doordarshan. His reaction was against the response of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, who opposed the telecasting of ‘The Kerala Story’ on Doordarshan.
“Freedom of speech is something that is granted to everyone in the country. Everyone in the country is free to express their opinions through media and art,” said Muraleedharan. He said that film is an artist’s view of various happenings in the society and if that view is harmful to the society, there is a system to control it.
The film ‘The Kerala Story’ provides a stark reminder of the dangers posed by terrorism and the need for vigilance against it. It was released after the scrutiny of Censor Board and the court. Muraleedharan asked why the people are so worried about telecasting the movie that was already shown in theaters, on Doordarshan. He stated that the makers of the film have never tried to belittle Kerala or expressed through the movie that it is a special incident that happened in Kerala.
“It is people who are afraid of opinions who say that a film that has been shown in theaters should be banned from telecasting on Television,” said V Muraleedharan. According to him, this is just the selective freedom of speech of the left front. He said that it is a common policy in communist countries to show only what is good for their left ideologies.
V Muraleedharan also spoke against the opposition leader VD Satheesan’s statement that he would approach the Election Commission against telecasting the film on Doordarshan. “Everyone is free to approach the Election Commission. The opposition leader had to take four days to decide whether to accept the support of the terrorists or not,” said Muraleedharan. He added that such people would have doubts about many things.
Muraleedharan was referring to the Congress-SDPI relationship which had created uproar recently. It had hit the headlines few days back, when Shashi Tharoor openly admitted that Congress in Kerala have the support of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in all 20 constituencies of Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections. SDPI is the political face of banned terrorist organization Popular Front of India (PFI). Later when the issue became a heated debate, the Congress on Thursday (April 4), rejected the support offered by the SDPI.
After the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan objected to the Doordarshan decision to telecast the Kerala Story, Director Sudipto Sen said, “Since our childhood our parents and teachers taught us that only wrong people are scared of truth. Our film exposed the sinister global terror network active in India. So, some of them are angry with us.”
He said that the film’s only aim was to expose the ISIS and other radical groups trying to harm our country.
