Thiruvananthapuram: The state grapples with a surge in cyber fraud cases, with police efforts falling short in apprehending perpetrators. Over four crore rupees have reportedly been lost to cyber scams within the last four days. Majority of these fraudulent activities are orchestrated through popular social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
The tally of individuals falling victim to online scams is on a steady rise. The Cyber Police have filed a total of 10 FIRs concerning various scams. Among these, three cases each have been reported from Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur districts, while Palakkad and Wayanad districts have reported two cases each.
A significant portion of victims being highly educated individuals. Cyber experts warn that unless people remain vigilant, more cases of fraud are likely to surface in the coming days.
