Bengaluru: Union Minister Smriti Irani severely slammed the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad while addressing an election campaign in Karnataka.
Smriti Irani stated that Rahul contesting in Wayanad, where CPI (also a part of INDI Alliance) is also contesting, is contradictory. She talked about the I.N.D.I. Alliance’s pathetic condition and questioned the logic behind the Communist Party of India (CPI) opposing Congress in Wayanad, Kerala, while supporting it in Delhi for the Lok Sabha election.
Smriti Irani asked how this could be accepted and added, “the Left parties are also asking why Rahul Gandhi doesn’t go to Uttar Pradesh and contest instead of Wayanad. But when the same Left parties met in Delhi for an I.N.D.I. Alliance meeting, they hugged Rahul Gandhi.”
She then humorously remarked, “Yesterday, I said in Wayanad, ‘Hugging in Delhi, begging in Kerala.’ Considering the situation the Congress is facing in Karnataka, ‘it is hugging in Delhi, begging in Kerala, and thugging in Karnataka,’” stated Smriti Irani.
Smriti Irani said this to the media, after attending NDA candidate K Surendran’s nomination submission in Wayanad. She criticized Rahul for contesting in the same constituency where the INDI Alliance’s CPI candidate, Annie Raja, is also contesting, which seems illogical.
