Kannur: CPI (M) leaders has attended the funeral ceremony of Sheril, who lost his life in an explosion while making bombs on the terrace of an under-construction building in Panoor, Kannur. The CPI (M) state leadership has reiterated the argument that Sheril has no connection with the party, yet the CPI (M) leaders led the funeral ceremonies. Among those who attended the funeral ceremony were Kuthuparamba MLA K.P. Mohanan and other CPI (M) leaders.
The bomb blast occurred last Friday in Panoor, Kannur district, with reports indicating that around 10 individuals were present at the scene. Four individuals were subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. Those arrested individuals were CPI (M) activists. But the party refuted any association with them, labelling them as criminals.
Despite the denial, CPI(M) Area Committee member Sudhir Kumar and Local Committee member Ashokan also visited Sheril’s house to attend the funeral ceremony. However, CPI(M) state secretary, M.V. Govindan, argued that no party leaders had visited Sheril’s house. The senior leader of the party, P. Jayarajan, has also responded that the news came out as part of an attempt to undermine the CPI(M).
The place where the bomb blast took place in Panoor is a stronghold of the CPI (M). Several steel bombs were also recovered during the post-blast inspection. The CPI (M)’s state leadership’s justification that they had no knowledge of bomb-making is also being heavily criticised.
