Kochi: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by 2008 Bengaluru bomb blast accused, Abdul Nasar Madani, has extended its support to the Left Democratic Front in the coming Lok Sabha election. The PDP leaders, in a meeting at Kochi, decided to work for LDF candidates in all the 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala that will go to the polls on April 26. The decision of the PDP leaders was ratified by the Chairman Abdul Nasar Madani.
Earlier the political outfit of Popular Front had extended its support to the Congress. This had led to severe criticism against the Congress. Ironically, the CPI(M) State Secretary, MV Govindan and others had come forward to criticize the Congress for taking support of communal organization like Popular Front’s political wing the SDPI.
A report said that Kochi Mayor and CPI(M) leader M Anil Kumar was also present at the meeting when the PDP announced its support to the LDF. The report also mentions that senior PDP leader saying that the party’s decision followed after discussion with CPI(M) leaders including MV Govindan.
BJP leaders have pointed out that those who accuse BJP of being communal are making alliances with extreme communal forces. The PDP had extended its support to LDF in the previous elections including the local body elections.
Abdul Nasar Madani was accused in the 1998 Coimbatore bombings but got acquitted about 10 years later. He was later charged in the 2008 Bengaluru bomb blasts and was jailed in Karnataka. Madani is now on bail and is residing at his house in Kaloor in Ernakulam, Kerala. The Bengaluru bomb blasts had killed two people and injured twenty others.
