Nedumbassery: The Cochin International Airport have been closed till Sunday 3 pm due to inundation of floodwaters. The operations were suspended after the water level rose in Periyar river and a canal adjacent to the airport.
On Thursday, the airport operations were called off till Friday at 9 am as a precautionary measure.
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KDSMA) evacuated 22,165 people and moved them to 315 camps across the state in view of the heavy rains.
Airport infrastructure was damaged in the 2018 floods, with an estimated loss of Rs 220-250 crore.
Some of the diverted flights include- Indigo- Bengaluru, Air India- Thiruvananthapuram, GoAir- Hyderabad, Silk Air- Coimbatore, Air India Express- Thiruvananthapuram, Air Asia- Trichy, Malindo- Thiruvananthapuram, Malaysian- Chennai.
