Wayanad: The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has saved 54 people who were trapped after a landslide struck Puthumala near Meppadi in the hilly district of Wayanad.
Approximately 100 persons have been rescued so far.
Yesterday, a huge landslide stuck had Puthumala which is a remote area in Wayanad. The rescue was delayed due to the only path leading there covered in huge rubble and mud after the landslide.
NDRF is now pressed into service in Wayanad and Kannur where widespread havoc is reported due to flash floods and mudslides.
The Kozhikode District collector has announced that the shutters of Kaki dam will be opened shortly by 3 feet. At present the shutters are opened only 45 cm. The shutters will be further opened owing to heavy rainfall. An alert has been issued in Kozhikode and panchayath officials are asked to evacuate people to safer places.
