Thiruvananthapuram: The shutters of the Aruvikkara Dam have been opened. Each shutter was opened 50 cm apart. The shutters of Neyyar Dam will also be opened in a short time.
As a precautionary set up,following the warnings of rain four shutters were opened for about one inch each to keep the water level under control. The current water level of Neyyar Dam is 82.02 meters and the maximum storage capacity of the dam is 84.75 meters.
The people should not panic and the water level will not be raised in the water bodies due to a small opening of the shutters, the District Collector said.
