Kollam: Activists from both the communist parties, CPI(M) and CPI, clashed with each other today evening at Pathanapuram. Workers of both the communist parties have been injured and is hospitalized. Reports say that many police personnel are also injured in the clash and many police vehicles damaged.
Situation is still tense in the area and more police force is rushed to the place.
Last year in June there was a clash between the two communist party and some believe that today’s violence is a fall out of the previous year’s scuffle. The fight began last year when students of St. Stephen’s School belonging to SFI and AISF clashed between themselves. This later escalated to a all out fight between CPI(M) an CPI. Police brokered peace between the two parties in the presence of senior party leaders.
It is believed that CPI(M) is unhappy over many of its cadre joining CPI, the junior partner in the Left Democratic Front that is currently in power in Kerala.
Today’s clash may be a fall out of this animosity between the two communist parties. The residents of the quiet town of Pathanapuram is under fear after the ruling party workers went on rampage by destroying the police vehicles that are meant to maintain peace in the area.
