Kannur: Two ABVP activists were attacked by SFI goons at Brennen College in Thalassery, Kannur, today. ABVP State Committee member, Vishak Preman and his friend sustained serious injuries after a gang of SFI workers chased them on bikes and attacked them.
The reason for this sudden attack is the recent college election, in which Vishak worked tirelessly to garner votes for ABVP. This had infuriated the SFI leaders who had publically threatened Vishak of grave consequences. They had even threatened to kill him for his work in establishing ABVP at Brennen College.
Last month, the pro-communist Principal of the college had removed the ABVP flag post which was placed there during a function to commemorate the killing of an ABVP activist by religious fundamentalists.
However, ABVP activists led by Vishak Preman had replaced the flag post at the same spot and challenged the communist student leaders and the college administration. Later he was instrumental in the growth of ABVP in the college and the saffron student organization was gaining ground rapidly.
During the college election, ABVP had done a good electioneering work which greatly distressed the SFI leaders. The main ABVP activists were targeted since then and today’s attack is a fall out of this.
The two activists are currently admitted to Cooperative Hospital at Thalassery.
