Ernakulam: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has confirmed that eight people who joined IS from Kerala have been killed. The eight of them were among the 23 who had joined IS for Jihadi operations from the districts of Kasaragod and Palakkad. Reports confirm that they were eliminated in the US airstrikes in 2016.
Murshid Mohammed of Kasaragod, Mohammed Marwan of Thrikkarippur in Kasaragod, Hafeezuddin of Padanna, Mohammed Mansad, KP Shihas and his wife Ajmala, Yahiya from Palakkad and KT Shibi are among the killed. They had fled the country to take part in various terror missions in 2016.
After joining IS, they lived in Afghanistan. The NIA said that only after an official confirmation from Afghanistan, it would consider closing the cases filed against the eight persons. According to reports, the death of these eight people was already informed to their family by those who had been with them.
The NIA has sought the help of Afghan authorities for more information on their deaths. Their details have been handed over to the authorities. The NIA has received information that some have left to Syria from Afghanistan. However, no official confirmation has been received.
