Kochi: In a tragic incident, a jilted lover set fire to a seventeen year old girl after she refused his proposal. The young man entered her house and doused her with petrol before setting her on fire. The man too died of burns later in the hospital.
The deceased, Devika, and her family are residents of Athani in Kochi, while the murderer hails from Paravoor. The girl’s father, Shalon, also sustained grave burn injuries while trying to save his daughter from the fire.
The man went to the girl’s house around midnight and demanded that he wanted to see Devika. Whereupon he doused her with petrol and set Devika on fire. The flames from her body soon engulfed him as well.
The three of them were rushed to the hospital where Devika and the man succumbed to their injuries. The police have registered a case.
