New Delhi: Union Minister V Muraleedharan on Sunday lashed out at urban Naxals, anarchists and atheists saying that they are going to Sabarimala just to prove they have gone to the shrine but these people are not genuine devotees.

“The people who are going to temple now, are urban Naxals, anarchists and atheists, I don’t think they are devotees. They want to prove that ‘we have gone to Sabarimala Temple.’ Whether they are really devotees, it should be examined,” said Muraleedharan.

The Government of Kerala run by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is under pressure to maintain the traditions of Sabarimala, said the Minister.

“The Supreme Court is yet to take a final decision and the overall mood is that the tradition of Sabarimala should be maintained. The Kerala government is taking steps keeping that in mind and is acting under this pressure,” he said.

On November 14, The Supreme Court had referred the pleas in the Sabarimala verdict to a 7-judge Constitutional bench. The decision was passed with a 3:2 majority of the 5-judge bench.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said after the verdict, the government is committed to complying by the apex court’s judgement no matter what it is. But, there needs to be more clarity on this judgement.
