Sabarimala: Devaswom Ombudsman seeks explanation over lag in infrastructure work at the shrine

Pathanamthitta: The Devaswom Ombudsman, Justice P. R. Raman, will seek an explanation about the lag of infrastructure works at Sabarimala temple. The ombudsman will also ask the concerned officials to present themselves before him. Even though the pilgrimage has begun the construction works at the holy shrine is progressing at snail’s pace.

Justice P. R. Raman has expressed his displeasure at the low speed in which the works at Sabarimala is going. However, he said that he is happy that this year the police have withdrawn their control over the temple premises.

Last year the police had taken control of the temple to suppress the peaceful protests of the devotees trying to save the traditions of the temple. The communist government took a tough stance against innocent devotees and used unequal force against them. However, the defeat of the Communist party in the recent Lok Sabha elections made them realize their folly.

The party has taken a soft stand this year and said that it would not protect women trying to enter the holy shrine in a bid to violate the ancient traditions of the temple.

The Ombudsman’s decision comes after a report given by ‘Janam TV’.
