Thiruvananthapuram: The opposition MLAs staged protest in the well of the house alleging police attack against Kerala Students Union (KSU) workers a day earlier. This disrupted the Assembly proceedings on Wednesday.
Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) members entered the well of the house raising slogans over police lathi charge on Congress MLA Shafi Parambil and KSU workers. Blood-stained clothes were also displayed by the opposition in the Assembly.
Meanwhile, MLA V T Balram put a stop at the proceedings and demanded a discussion on police’s action. He alleged that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s police force were “acting like monkeys and stray dogs”.
The speaker moved away from his seat after five MLAs entered into his dais.
On Tuesday, the police detained the members of KSU, the student wing of the Congress after they demanded a CBI inquiry into the 2017 Walayar rape case.
The government has however filed an appeal in Kerala High Court seeking re-investigation and re-trial into the Walayar rape case.
