Kochi: The Sri Bhadra Kali temple at Kakkanad, in Kochi, was attacked and defiled by anti-social elements, possibly to create communal tensions in the area. The idols of the smaller deities at the temple were smashed and thrown away.
The attackers destroyed 12 idols of the deities including Kandakarnan, Nagarajav, Rekshas, and Panchamoorthi. The destruction of the temple deities were discovered today morning. However, the devotees say that the idols were there last night. Pooja or worship in the temple is done only during Fridays every week.
The police are checking the CCTV footage of the local area to nab those who are responsible for the attack on the temple. Many believe it is the work of some anti-social elements trying to destroy the communal harmony of the region.
