Wayanad: In an unfortunate incident, a 10-year old girl was bit by a snake inside her classroom in Sultan Bathery of Wayanad district but could not save her.
The students of the government vocational higher secondary school alleged that Shehla Sheri, a class five student, was taken to the hospital an hour after the incident. The teacher neglected the bite and continued with the class saying that the child’s father will take her to the hospital. After sometime, the girl’s leg turned blue, said her classmate.
The incident happened on Wednesday and the teacher has been suspended. The parents blamed the school authorities for the delay to take the child to the hospital. The snake surfaced from a hole in the classroom and bit her.
The victim was first taken to a private hospital and later to Bathery Taluk hospital. She was then referred to the Kozhikode Medical College and on the way she started vomiting and died.
Massive protest has started against the school authorities for not fillling the holes in the classrooms.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the lapses. Health Minister KK Shylaja has ordered the suspension of the doctor in the Bathery Taluk Hospital after failing to diagnose the snake bite.
