Idukki: Kerala Electricity Minister, M. M. Mani, said that banning intoxicating substances will lead to more craving for it. Interestingly, he made this comments during the inauguration of an anti-drug drive by the Excise department in Idukki.
M. M. Mani said that these intoxicating substances must not be banned and added that those places which had banned these substances later had the ban revoked.
Famous for his motor-mouth, the Electricity Minister, has been in the news for making controversial statements. A few years back he had openly admitted of murdering rival party members decades earlier.
The Left Democratic Front came to power in the state by promising a drive against alcohol consumption. However, once in power, the communist government went against their promise and is now actively supporting the consumption of alcohol. Recently, the government decided to allow pubs to operate in the state with availability of alcohol.
Alcohol consumption in the state is alarming and is reported to be the trigger of many crimes committed across Kerala.
