Kochi: The NIA Court in Kochi, today, declared six men guilty of terror in the Kanakamala case. One accused was let off. The court will sentence the guilty on Wednesday.
Those found guilty are Maneesh Muhamood, Swalif Mohammad, Rasheed Ali, N. K. Ramshad, P. Safvan, and Shajeer Manglserry. They have been charged under the Unlawful Prevention Act (UAPA). N. K. Wasim was acquitted for lack of evidence.
In 2016, the accused held a meeting at Kanakamala in Kannur district. The security agencies charged them of having contacts with the dreaded terror organization, the ISIS. In the meeting, the accused planned to carry out terror attacks in the country.
The NIA investigated the case and charged the accused of treason, conspiracy and other sections of UAPA. One of the accused, Sajeer, is said to have been killed in Afghanistan.
