Kochi: The NIA Special Court in Kochi has sentenced all the pro-ISIS accused in the Kanakamala terror case in which they held a meeting to plan attacks in the country. The first accused, Manseed, is sentenced to 14 years in prison and fine.
Swalih Mohammad, the second accused, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison while the third accused gets 7 years. The fourth and fifth accused gets 4 years and 8 years respectively.
The court ruled that the first and second accused have involvement with terrorism. The sixth accused, Jaseem, was acquitted earlier.
All the accused was charged with UAPA and the prosecution asked the court to give the maximum punishment for them.
All the accused assembled at Kanakamala in Kannur in 2016 and conspired to conduct terror acts against the country. During the investigations it was found that they had planned to attack religious places of all religions, judges, and political leaders. Their aim was to create communal riots in the state.
