Thiruvananthapuram: The 87th annual Sivagiri pilgrimage marked its beginning formally as the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the three day event here in Varkala. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan presided over and Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan was the chief guest.
The Vice President stated that India should be a no – caste country in the future. It will be possible only with administration skill and political will, he added. Untouchability is still prevailing in some places and this untouchability is against the constitution, Vice President said. The notions extended by Sree Narayana Guru is lofty. Sivagiri visit provides spiritual entity, Venkaia Naidu added.
Minister Kadakampally Surendran, Oommen Chandy, Sivagiri Mutt General Secretary Swami Sandrananda were also participated in the function.
