New Delhi: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that he is acting only according to the law. The Constitution specifies what is the responsibility of the Governor. Khan said that it is the responsibility of the governor to ensure the functions of the government were transparent in terms of the Constitution. The governor explained his position by reading the Rules of Business.
In the matter pertaining to the Citizenship Amendment Act, the government of Kerala exercised which is not mentioned in the jurisdiction of the state.
Khan accused the government and said that without informing the Governor they went to the court to oppose the Centre. It is unconstitutional to do so without the approval of the Governor.It is the responsibility of the Chief Minister to inform the Governor. There is a law in this land and no one is above it.
Khan reiterated that the state alone cannot go with the legal process against the CAA. When such rules are violated, as a Governor he will strongly intervene in the matter.
