Thiruvananthapuram: Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly appointed state president K Surendran will assume office today at the party’s state headquarters at 10.30 am.
Union Minister of State V Muraleedharan, Madhya Pradesh former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will also be present.
The headquarters is located near Government Law College in Kunnukuzhi where he will take over as the party’s state president.
K Surendran is one of the firebrand leaders of the BJP in Kerala. He could also attain national attention during the fierce stir against the entry of women of a particular age group to Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.
In the Lok Sabha election, Surendran had contested from Pathanamthitta constituency where Sabarimala is located. However he could finish only in the third position, but it is noteworthy that he secured 2.95 lakh votes compared to only 1.38 lakh-odd votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. In the 2016 Kerala Assembly elections Surendran lost by just 89 votes from the Manjeshwaram seat.
