Kochi: Funds meant for victims of the floods in Kerala have been redirected to the account of a local leader of the CPI(M). The District Collector suspended a government official, Vishnu Prasad, who was responsible for the flood relief cell.
Local CPI(M) leader, Anwar, allegedly had Rs. 10.54 lakh of the fund deposited illegally in his account. The amount was credited to Anwar’s account when many victims of the 2018 floods are still waiting for relief amount to make their ends meet.
The money was transferred to the Federal Bank account of Aayanad Services Cooperative Bank. This is because the Aayanand bank do not have an IFSC cod. The money is first credited in their Federal Bank account before being transferred to Aayanad bank.
Rs. 5 lakh from that fund was redirected to the account of Anwar who later withdrew Rs. 5 lakh from his account. A bank employee got suspicious of the transaction and informed the Collector about the fraud.
Vishnu Prasad was suspended by the Collector after primary investigations. The Collector has ordered the bank to collect the money given to Anwar.
However, the CPI(M) leader claims he do not know how the money reached his account. Strangely it is to be investigated that how Anwar could have withdrew Rs. 5 lakh from his account. When flood victims are struggling to get Rs. 4 lakh for home construction , the communist party leader’s account is credit of Rs. 5 lakh.
Meanwhile, resident of Kalamassery, Girish Babu has demanded a detailed investigation into the corruption charges .
