Kannur: A CPI(M) member has revealed that the Malabar Devaswom Board President, O. K. Vasu, had given him a contract to rob temples at Kannur Pannur, Poyilur, Madapurayil.
The robbery took place this January and CPI(M) members were arrested for the crime. However, the Malabar Devaswom Board President said that the men were BJP activists. This made the third accused, Sumesh, to publically reveal the truth behind the whole incident.
The robbery was done by Sumesh and two of his accomplices on the basis of a contract given for Rs. 6 lakh by Vasu. The reason behind the robbery was to spread a picture that temple treasures were not safe so as to take it over by the Malabar Devaswom Board.
Sumesh came out to accuse O. K. Vasu after the latter abandoned those who did the crime after receiving the money. Vasu also tried to pin the blame on the BJP workers. With Sumesh’s revelation the truth has finally come out.
O. K. Vasu, who has to ensure the development of temples and development is involved in serious charges of giving contract for temple robbery. This would surely become a headache for the CPI(M) leadership in the state.
