Kottayam: The death of three persons in a span of one week in a destitute home at Changanassery in Kottayam district has given rise to protest from the local residents. The mysterious deaths occurred at the home run by Puthujeevan Trust.

The Kottayam DMO, Dr. Jacob said that all the three deaths were similar. In addition, another six persons of the destitute home are admitted to a hospital at Thiruvalla with vomiting, and swelling of legs. The primary inference is that the deaths were due to pneumonia.

The health department officials have said that the deaths were not caused by Corona virus or H1N1. Last week the blood samples of the patients were collected.

Dr. Jacob said that a toxicology test will be done to ascertain if any poisonous substance have entered the patients’ body.

Meanwhile, local political leaders and residents have come out in protest demanding thorough investigations into the deaths at the destitute home. Health Minister, K. K. Shylaja, has ordered a probe into the issue.
