17 Kerala Fishermen trapped in Iran amid COVID-19; Centre in touch with local authorities in Iran

New Delhi: Around 17 fishermen hailing from Kerala have been trapped in Iran following COVID-19 warning. All of them belong to the fishing villages of Vizhinjam, Poovar and Pozhiyoor of the capital city Thiruvananthapuram.

The Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan tweeted, ” Received reports on Indians including fishermen from Kerala stuck in Iran due to #COVID19. Our Embassy in Tehran is making an assessment of the situation and is in touch with local authorities. Helpline: +98-9128109115 [email protected].”

The fishermen had gone to Iran four months ago for fishing jobs. A total of 200 had travelled to Iran then.
