Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala BJP president K Surendran slammed the government’s act of recovering the Theerthapada Mandapam near the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in the state capital.
Surendran said that Revenue department’s act of using police force to take back the land was provocative and deplorable.
“The Theerthapada Mandapam is the monument of renaissance leader Chattampi Swamikal. Spiritual and cultural programmes were being organised there for decades. The action by the Revenue department comes at a time when the Chief Minister is all set to lay the foundation stone of the new cultural complex at the Theerthapada Mandapam,” said Surendran.
He also said that it is a public insult on Chattampi Swamikal which has hurt the sentiments of devotees. The government has recovered the land it had earlier given.
Surendran also made a note that even the AKG centre, the CPM headquarters runs on the encroached land. He warned that the BJP will not remain idle against the government’s non-secular move challenging the devotees.
The revenue officials came to take over the land which led to sudden protests from the BJP and the Hindu Aikya Vedi activists. The police broke the lock to the mandapam to enter it.
