Thiruvananthapuram: BJP State President, K. Surendran, today, came down heavily against the Kerala government for failing to give aid to an youth in Wayanad to rebuild his home, which was destroyed in the floods. The youth, Sanal, had committed suicide because he was unable to rebuild his home without the government’s aid.
K. Surendran blamed the state government for Sanal’s death and said it amounted to the murder of the poor man. He added that this shows the state government’s lack of commitment to the poor and its inefficiency.
He reminded that there are many in the State, who have lost everything in the floods and are yet to receive the Rs. 10,000 as promised by the government.
The BJP leader said that the Kerala government had got a huge amount of aid from the central government and also from individuals to help the victims of the flood in Kerala. Yet the state officials are not giving it to the needy by citing technical reasons. This was how Sanal was denied the money he desperately needed to rebuild his home.
Surendran said that in a way Sanal’s death is a murder committed by Pinarayi’s government.
Sanal’s house was destroyed completely by the floods. Yet, the government could not even give him Rs. 10,000. The only thing the officials did was, to come for some inspections.
The victims of the 2018 floods of Kerala are yet to be compensated. These same people had to face the 2019 floods too, but the government is only harassing them, K. Surendran said.
The BJP leader also criticized the government for saying that it will do everything for Sanal after his death. It is cruelty by the part of the government. He also demanded the government help the flood victims before more lives are lost.
