Kochi: The prime mover of the flood relief fund scam has surrendered to the police who was accused of redirecting the fund to CPM leader’s account.
Mahesh, who is also a close friend of CPM leader Anwar has surrendered. The police stated that Mahesh and collectorate official Vishnu ployed to redirect the fund.
Mahesh will be taken into Crime Branch custody today.
The police had yesterday arrested CPM leader NN Nidhi and his wife in connection with the incident, followed by which Mahesh surrendered. He and Anwar went absconding after executing their plan. At the same time, search for Anwar continues.
The friendship between the two started when they were renting at Vishnu’s house in Thrikkakara. From there, they conspired to scam the fund. Mahesh, who had close ties to the CPM leadership, was the one who organized the local CPM leaders for the scam.
Mahesh could attain more money from the fraudulent act after Vishnu. Police said that Mahesh also had the brain to start a poultry farm business in Pollachi.
At the same time, Nidhin, CPM member from Thrikkakara East Local Committee, has been expelled from the party.
