Kochi: Legal action has been taken against a Malayalam news channel 24 News after they aired false information on COVID-19 and defamed the Health Department.
In the ‘Sreekandan Nair Show’, they allegedly made defaming remarks against the Health Department. The DMO complained to the district collector that when all the departments are working tirelessly against the virus infection, the show tried to deliberately spread false information. The DMO also reported that Sreekandan Nair and Dr Shinu Shyamalan has made disgracing remarks against the Health Department publicly.
The news media was also advised not to broadcast fake news or panic-stricken content in the wake of virus outbreak. But it is to be seen that the interview was aired without taking a note of the advisory.
The District Collector said that legal action will also be taken against Dr. Shinu Shyamalan. She had alleged that a person who arrived from Qatar with fever was not taken into consideration despite informing the Health Department.
