New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, today, said that Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayai Vijayan, is trying to politicize the Central government’s efforts to bring back Indians stranded in Italy, where the COVID-19 has wreaked havoc.
V. Muraleedharan said that the government will bring back Indians just like how it brought Indian citizens from China, Iran, and Japan.
Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, tried to score political points by falsely stating that the Central government is not interested to bring back Indians stranded in Italy. He also tried to spread the fake news that the Central government is delaying the evacuation of those stranded.
However, V. Muraleedharan, explained the efforts of the Central government, thus, exposing the Chief Minister’s claims.
The Minister said that the Central government is taking the situation very seriously. The Prime Minister has asked that a ministerial level committee be constituted which includes the Union Health Minister, ministers of External Affairs, Home, Defence and also other officials.
India has decided to send a medical team to Italy after it was known that the doctors in that country is not willing to examine the patients or issue certificates. The medical team will examine the Indian citizens and bring back those who are not yet infected by COVID-19. They will also ensure that the infected Indian citizens receive the needed medical attention in Italy.
Muraleedharan also said that the media reports, which says that the External Ministry is not doing enough to bring back those stranded, are false. He said that the media is deliberately hiding what the Central government is doing to help Indians stranded abroad. He also requested the media to put aside politics atleast during a time like this.
