Thiruvananthapuram: The spread of COVID-19 has forced the country for a complete lockdown for 21 days. In view of this, the Sabarimala temple festival which was scheduled to begin on March 29 has been cancelled.
The decision by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the complete lockdown from the midnight of Tuesday.
The TDB has also decided to cancel all the festivals in other temples that comes under the board.
PM Modi in his address to the nation on Tuesday announced, a 21-day lockdown across the country to tackle and break the chain of the spread of coronavirus. He urged the people to not cross the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ of the house and practice ‘social distancing’.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has reported 536 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, with a death toll of 11.
