Kottayam: In the case pertaining to violation of lockdown in Payipadu junction by migrant workers, one person has been arrested.
Mohammed Rinchu, a native of West Bengal, has been arrested. He was held on the basis of information that he gave a phone call to the workers asking them to come out on roads in mass numbers.
The arrested has been accused of calling migrant workers residing in Payipadu through phone call. More than 3000 workers converged at the junction. District police chief G Jaydev is investigating the matter after believing it to be a conspiracy. Police have questioned several people in connection with this matter.
Police has also taken a note of all the phone records of Rinchu.
The migrant workers protested demanding for food, water and make arrangements to go back to West Bengal. Intervention by district police chief and Collector helped to disperse the crowd.
Various political party leaders have alleged that there was a conspiracy behind the incident.
