Kochi: In a backlash to the state government, The High Court of Kerala on Tuesday stayed for two months the directive issued for postponement of payment of six days’ salary of government servants for five months from April 2020.
A single bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed that it was the right of every individual to receive salary for the job they exercised. The bench did not accept the argument of the govenment that the power was traceable to Disaster Management ACt 2005 and the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.
The case will be again considered on May 20.
The court order comes after a petition filed by opposition service organizations challenging the decision to defer the payment of salary to government servants.
