Kochi: Mayor Soumini Jain said that the Kochi Corporation is reeling under financial crisis after incomes from tax declined. The mayor said that she hopes the government would help with costs, including the settlement of returning expatriates.
The main reason for the financial crisis was the decline in tax revenues in February and March. The salaries of the municipal staff were paid with extreme difficulty this time. It is also not known how the salaries will be paid next time.
Eleven multi-storeyed buildings and 1444 lodges have been identified under the Kochi Corporation limits to accommodate the returning expatriates in the wake of coronavirus. The exact number of those returning to Kochi has not yet received. But the work will proceed according to government’s instructions.
