Palakkad: A youth who was under observation for coronavirus has died in Attappady. The deceased Karthik, is a native of Sholayur Varakampady. He was admitted to the hospital the previous day due to fever.

Karthik died on the way to Manjeri Medical College from EMS Cooperative Hospital in Perinthalmanna. He had sought treatment on May 6 from the Tribal Specialty Hospital in Kottathara following fever and other symptoms. Subsequently he was referred to the Perinthalmanna EMS Cooperative Hospital from Kottathara Hospital. However, he could not be saved due to severity of the disease.

He had reached Attappady via forest from Coimbatore on April 29.

Allegations against the health department and police have raised for their serious lapse. The deceased was not put under government’s observation.

On April 29, six members of a gang, including Karthik had reached Attapady through forest area. When the state police claims that the checking on the borders is vigilant, the youth who came from Red zone Coimbatore, makes it suspicious from the side of the police. Those who come from the red zone areas should be shifted to the government’s isolation centres. But asking him to go under home quarantine is a serious fall from the health department.
