Malappuram: A soldier has been arrested after he backed a Facebook comment which encouraged to fire upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Malappuram Tirurangadi native Mehaboob was arrested by the military police from Jammu and Kashmir. Police also seized seven mobile phones from his possession.
The Facebook comment incident happened last December when he posted against the Citizenship Amendment Act. He had asked those who favour CAA to get removed from his friends list. Beneath this, a man commented encouraging Mehaboob to shoot down PM Modi and Amit Shah on sight. Mehaboob responded by giving his consent to the comment.
Following the comments, Union Home Ministry and Defence Ministry had received several complaints. Further, he was arrested.
During the investigation, it has been discovered that he often made anti-national remarks using fake Facebook accounts. Mehaboob has 11 fake accounts on Facebook alone. The police also found that he had six WhatsApp accounts and two Telegram accounts.
Police are also collecting information about his Facebook friends as part of investigation. Investigation is also on to find whether he has any links with terror outfits.
