Kerala police to have new work criteria; no more arrests to be recorded for bailable offences

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala police have come forward with a new criteria wherein no more arrests will be recorded for bailable offences but only those who have committed serious offences will be arrested.

DGP Loknath Behra gave approval to the new criteria of work prepared by a team under ADGP Manoj Abraham on Saturday. It was handed over to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for approval.

The amendment in the criteria work comes owing to the scare of coronavirus. The police stations will function with half of the staff while others will be on rest. The police personnel are allowed to directly report to the place of duty without visiting the police station.

The police officials are directed to wear mask, gloves and use sanitizer in a case of arrest. The accused must also wear mask and gloves.

Social distancing ought to be maintained in police vehicles. Police will be granted leave for a week after 7 days of duty.

Normal vehicle inspections will not be carried out. Police officials will be deployed at only major junctions which are crowded.

The public will be requested to avoid visiting police stations and use e-mail, WhatsApp and call centre facilities to lodge complaints.

The new working pattern is likely to continue in the police department until COVID-19 comes under control.
