Kochi: The Travancore Devaswom Board told the High Court that it had decided not to lease Devaswom land to any private individuals adding that it would follow the direction of the court in this matter.
The matter emerged when Hindu organisations including Hindu Aikyavedi had approached the court over illegal cultivation on the land of Vazhappally Mahadeva Temple.
The court has asked the Devaswom Secretary to find out who has illegally occupied the land and a report on the same to be submitted before June 16. The case will be next heard on June 17.
The Bench of the High Court had earlier directed that the temple land be used only for temple purposes. However, a group of CPM supporters cultivated the temple land in violation of the High Court’s directive.
