Thiruvananthapuram: BJP state president K Surendran said that the PInarayi Vijayan government continues to insult and humiliate the expatriates who have been working tirelessly for Kerala.
K Surendran in a statement said the NORKA’s reply indicates that at least basic facilities that were provided to migrant workers cannot be given to diaspora.
Surendran urged the immediate withdrawal of the order of the NORKA Secretary that the expatriates could not even be considered as equal to migrant workers. The government who asks for the helping hand from expatriates during the time of crisis is now abandoning them.
The statement issued by NORKA secretary K Elangovan said the expats can’t be treated and protected like migrant workers.
“Only a small percentage of those who come from abroad are infected with the disease. Keeping them under quarantine with better facilities will curb the spread of the virus infection. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s approach to let the expatriates die abroad is ungrateful and cruel. The Chief Minister also knows that it is not practical to conduct a corona test abroad and only bring back the normal people. The government is trying to obstruct the travel of expatriates to hide the embarrassment of failing to accommodate them here,” said the BJP state Chief.
