Kochi: According to intelligence reports, the terrorist organisation Islamic State has links with the continuous gold smuggling rackets in the state. The report states that the gold flowing in to Kerala is being used for anti-national purposes.

The report also claims that those who joined ISIS from Kerala are involved in the gold smuggling.

The Intelligence charted the report after Thiruvananthapuram airport gold smuggling case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency. However, the NIA probe will not be limited to the gold smuggling in the capital city. They will also conduct detailed investigation in all types of gold smuggling via airports in the state, be it a major or petty smuggling.

At the same time, the NIA is investigating whether high-ranking officials were involved in the gold smuggling. The NIA will also probe into the role of the chief minister’s office in the gold smuggling after it was found that the key accused Swapna Suresh had links with Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary M Sivasankar.

NIA will be registering a new case with invoking the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) against the accused. The Agency will also support and help the Customs to find Swapna Suresh who is on the run.
