Kochi: The Customs department has sent a report to the central government affirming Kerala Higher Education Minister K T Jaleel’s links with the UAE consulate in Thiruvananthapuram.
The report states that none of the parcels that came to the consulate had records of religious texts. The Centre has also been informed about the Minister’s transactions with the consulate. Accepting financial assistance from the consulate by the Minister is a violation of the law.
The Minister had earlier said that the parcel taken from the consulate to Malappuram, in the vehicle attached to a government enterprise named C-apt, was carrying Qurans. The Customs have however not approved this.
The Customs Preventive Commissionerate in Kochi has sought an investigation for violating the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act.
