Kozhikode: Prohibited tobacco product was obtained in jaggery in the Onam kit from two public distribution centers in Kozhikode. The kits were found at Poovattuparambu ration shop in Peruvayal panchayath and at shop number 148 in Naduvannur South.
Earlier, there was also a complaint about the poor quality of jaggery bought for higher price. The jaggery bought at Rs 62.40 per kg and Rs 59.69 per kg was of poor quality. They were bought from a co-operative society in Kozhikode and a company in Erode. The two companies received orders worth Rs 46.73 lakh. Out of this, about 25 lakh kilograms have been distributed.
Although an action was asked against the two companies on the basis of lab tests after the scam was proved, the Supplyco has not initiated any attempt to do so. The only action taken so far is the return of 3.62 lakh kg of jaggery.
