Kochi: The Customs has registered a case against Minister K T Jaleel in connection with the distribution of Quran in various parts of Kerala. As per protocol, items coming through diplomatic channel should not be distributed without the permission of the central government and the Minister has allegedly violated the rules.
The Customs will interrogate the Minister regarding with this case. According to the Customs department, by accepting copies of the Quran imported by the UAE Consulate after availing duty exemption, Minister K T Jaleel has also violated Customs norms.
The probe team will record Jaleel’s statement under the Customs Act. It is learned that a notice will be issued to the minister soon to appear for questioning. In addition, there are indications that a customs investigation is underway against some government officials in connection with the case.
Also 17,000 kg dates also arrived and was distributed in the state. The diplomatic channel can be used only by diplomats and items arriving in their name must not be distributed outside. The probe team will also look into this matter.
