Kochi: The Customs Department came down heavily upon former principal secretary M Sivasankar. According to Customs, Sivasankar ‘s treatment at the hospital in Thiruvananthapuram was a pre-written script. The agency also stated that Sivasankar’s seeking of medical assistance in a hospital where his wife works was part of the drama.
Customs argued against the High Court’s order on reserving the arrest of the IAS officer.
The investigation agency also said that the medical reports clearly pointed out that his illness was a trick in the ongoing investigation of gold smuggling case. Sivasankar was expected to be arrested when he returned from Kochi after signing his affidavit. The investigation team also alleged that the illness was carried out to avoid questioning by Customs.
