Kochi: In a major backlash to M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister, the High Court on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea in cases registered by the Customs department and Enforcement Directorate in connection with the gold smuggling case.
A single bench of Justice Ashok Menon “dismissed” the plea when the cases were taken up for pronouncement of orders today.
The case pertains to the seizure of 30 kg of 24 carat gold worth Rs 14.82 crore at Thiruvananathapuram airport on July 5 by the Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate, Kochi, which was sought to be brought through the diplomatic consignment sent to UAE consulate at the state capital.
